Volunteering with Deepam hospitals gives you a firsthand experience on
- Living in a Developing Country and understanding India.
- Helping out thousands of poor people who are in need. 94% of India’s people do not have health Insurance and many people loose their life time savings when struck by disease.
- Learning about Medical care delivery in India, assisting Doctors of various specialities and observing procedures and surgeries.
Eligibility:
Anyone with an intension to help and learn can volunteer.
- Minimum Age Limit is 18 Years; there is no upper age limit.
- Students who are 15-17 Years can volunteer if accompanied by the parent.
- Undergraduate Students, Premed Students, Medical Students, Physicians, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Research Fellows, Physician Assistants, Chartered Accountants, Public Health Students, NGO coordinators, Lawyers and any professional can apply for volunteering
Duration of the Programme:
Duration is quite flexible, ranges from 10 Days to 2 Months depending on the time available for the volunteer.
Dates:
Dates are available all round the year.
Previous Health Experience:
Though we would prefer previous health experience, it is not mandatory.
About India:
India is a country of staggering contrasts. There are metropolitan cities in India that boast of pubs, bars and restaurants that can compete with the best in the world, and there are villages that have never witnessed an electric bulb.
The Programme:
Academic Credits:
Deepam Hospitals programmes provide a unique opportunity for students to get academic credits from their Schools and University. Kindly organise from your University to receive this credits.
Each Volunteer at the end of the programme will receive a certificate.
Structure of the Programme:
Local volunteer coordinator at Deepam Hospitals will organise for everything for the volunteer, and will start corresponding with them even before they arrive here in India, help in visa letters , organise accommodation and airport transfers.
The volunteer programme consists of
1) Education on Basic Diseases prevalent in India.
2) Outreach Camps: The volunteers will be asked to assist in outreach camps of Deepam hospitals which will be conducted in Villages, Slum Areas and Orphanages.
3) Posting in OPD
4) Rotation in Departments such as General Medicine, OB Gyn, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Radiology and ICU.
5) Assisting in the Operation Room for Various Surgical procedures.
6) Academic Lectures.
7) Involvement in Vaccination Programmes.
8) Work in a Eye Hospital Locally.
9) Visit to Medical Schools / Educational Institutes nearby.
10) Visit to Govt Hospitals nearby.
